The season’s programme will be published online on the 28th of January.

CCS

The Centre culturel suisse. Paris (CCS) will reopen on 26 March 2026 after four years of renovation work.

Based on a competition organised by the Office fédéral des constructions et de la logistique (OFCL), in collaboration with Pro Helvetia, the architectural project selected is the result of a Franco-Swiss collaboration between the firms Architecture Studio Bœnders Raynaud — ASBR (Paris) and Truwant + Rodet + (Basel). The completely redesigned and renovated spaces offer more fluid circulation and versatility in their artistic uses. With the return of its bookshop, the launch of its café and its three large modular spaces, the new CCS brings audiences together around Swiss cultural life.

Established in 1985 in the heart of the Marais district, the CCS aims to raise awareness in France of contemporary Swiss creativity that is open to the world, to promote the influence of Swiss artists, and to encourage exchanges between the Swiss and French art scenes.

The programme focuses on contemporary Swiss creativity and reflects its diversity and vitality: exhibitions, shows, performances, concerts, documentary films and conferences punctuate the seasons at the CCS .

The Centre culturel suisse. Paris is a branch of Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council.

The renovation work

The Centre culturel suisse (CCS) in Paris underwent a facelift between March 2022 and February 2026. Based on a competition organised by the Office fédéral des constructions et de la logistique (OFCL), in collaboration with Pro Helvetia, the winning architectural project was the result of a Franco-Swiss collaboration between the firms Architecture Studio Bœnders Raynaud — ASBR (Paris) and Truwant + Rodet + (Basel). The project involves reconfiguring and harmonising the existing spaces and improving circulation, reception, security and accessibility for people with reduced mobility. Rather than favouring architectural flair, it prioritises simplicity of use and operation, as well as sustainability (energy efficiency, use of environmentally friendly materials, etc.).

The architectural project includes a series of interventions aimed at capitalising on the intrinsic qualities of the site, in particular by enhancing the structure, space and light, improving circulation and optimising the exhibition and performance spaces.

The main entrance has been moved to 32 rue des Francs-Bourgeois and now has a more visible access point. The bookshop now also serves as a reception area and is connected by a ramp to the wing of the mansion located in its extension. This wing has been stripped of its partitions and redesigned as a new exhibition space and offices, while the courtyard has been upgraded to accommodate its new refreshment bar. In the building at the rear, the hall has been relieved of its reception function to become a multipurpose space that can be used to extend the courtyard, the stage (theatre) or the exhibition rooms, as required.

The glass-roofed exhibition hall on the upper floor retains its quality and surface area but has been optimised with adapted and more efficient overhead lighting. The spaces around the edge of the stage have been redesigned to increase the size of the backstage area and workshop, improve the comfort of the dressing rooms and incorporate accessibility features (large lift and disabled toilets).

CCS has been reconfigured as a large, continuous and flexible platform, where spaces can unfold into one another without sacrificing their own identities. The increased openness between the street, courtyard and rooms, as well as the mobile features, promote a fluid typology, capable of accommodating a wide variety of artistic scenarios without limiting the venue to specific practices.

These transformations were based on a detailed analysis of the site’s constraints: demanding heritage protection, limited space, enhancement of the existing morphology of the Hôtel Poussepin and the hangar, accessibility and energy performance requirements. The architects worked to develop a working tool capable of interacting with the Marais district and fitting sustainably into a cultural context undergoing radical change.

The work was the subject of a publication edited by the CCS and Pro Helvetia En travaux, designed by Adeline Mollard, brings together photographs of the site taken throughout the period by photographers Florine Leoni and Nicolas Delaroche.

CCS On Tour

During the closure for renovation work (2022-2026), the CCS continued all its activities outside its walls throughout France. The CCS ‘On tour’ set up shop in Dunkirk, Lyon, Marseille, Rennes, Bordeaux, Metz, Lille, Orléans and Guadeloupe, while maintaining a regular presence in Paris. It also participated in numerous internationally renowned festivals such as Le Nouveau Printemps in Toulouse, the Aurillac International Street Theatre Festival and the Bap! Architecture and Landscape Biennial in Versailles. This tour provided an opportunity to showcase the contemporary Swiss art scene in all its forms – exhibitions, shows, performances, concerts, screenings and conferences – in collaboration with a strong network of cultural partners.

In line with the ‘On Tour’ programme and the links forged with numerous partners, several off-site events will punctuate the coming seasons and continue this momentum.
