The Centre culturel suisse (CCS) bookshop offers a wide selection of books on contemporary art, photography, architecture, literature, youth, graphic design, as well as a selection of design objects and artist’s editions. This carefully curated selection is in line with the CCS programme and reflects the richness of contemporary Swiss creativity. Through books and design, the CCS supports and promotes these disciplines.
A true meeting place, the bookshop hosts numerous events throughout the year, such as publication launches, exhibitions and talks. To find out more about the programme, visit the Agenda tab.
Following the renovation of the CCS (2022–2026), the bookshop will become the sole entrance to the CCS.
VERNACULAIRE
Museo La Congiunta – Peter Märkli takes a restrained approach to this radical building, allowing its volumes, light and functions to speak for themselves. A book that maintains a certain distance, much like the place it documents.
éditions corti
The Museum of Glasses brings together a collection of very short stories centred on often marginalised figures, observed in everyday situations that shift subtly. Through a blend of concrete details and subtle shifts, the collection creates a world that is both understated and unsettling.
ZOE
Une bonne chose de faite weaves together seemingly simple scenes, in which gestures and movements take a slightly unexpected turn. Through a blend of keen observation and subtle shifts, the text creates a restrained humour and a sense of diffuse strangeness.
Éditions Antipodes
Les Inaptes follows Bianca through an unstable world where excess has almost become a way of life. Amidst aimless drifting, tension and moments of sheer absurdity, the story unfolds with raw energy and a dark humour that keeps any sense of morality at bay.
Edition Haus am Gern
Intimate Borders of Liminal Love explores forms of attachment that take shape in liminal spaces — geographical, social and emotional. The book brings together texts and visual materials to capture fragile, evolving relationships that are often at odds with established norms
André Frère Editions
One millimetre of Black Dirt and a Veil of Dead Cows constructs a series of fragments in which the landscape, the body and matter seem to constantly decompose and reassemble. A dense whole, hovering between concrete observation and an unstable imagination.
espazium
TÜRM takes the form of an interview that explores architectural projects in which the construction process, uncertainty and experimentation remain visible. The text focuses on processes rather than finished objects, leaving room for uncertainty.
Niggli
The Quick Classification Guide for Typography: A Handbook for Designers offers a structured overview of the main typeface families, with clear guidelines for identifying and comparing them. A straightforward tool, designed to bridge the gap between practice and analysis.
Christoph Merian Verlag
Was wäre wenn / What if brings together scenarios and projects that explore architecture through hypotheses rather than certainties. The book presents open-ended proposals, in which the ‘what if’ becomes a tool for reflecting on uses and forms.
Les éditions d'en bas
L’adieu au plomb examines the transformation of the typographer’s trade in Switzerland during the transition from lead-based typesetting to digital and photographic technologies. The book documents these technical changes and their practical impact on professional practices and organisations.
Rookie Books
Animals brings together photographs of animals taken in everyday settings, often captured from an offbeat, head-on perspective. The book plays on ordinary situations and human behaviour in the background, in a style typical of Martin Parr.
Edition Patrick Frey
Orlando weaves a fragmented narrative centred on characters and situations that blur the line between observation and invention. The book unfolds through free associations, with a focus on gestures, forms and movements.
ROLLO PRESS
The Sori Yanagi Appreciation Society brings together essays and observations on Sori Yanagi’s work, spanning design, craftsmanship and everyday use. The book explores the apparent simplicity of his objects and the manufacturing principles that underpin them.
